GMG unveils its ‘Make a Difference’ sustainability strategy framework

The strategy is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals across GMG’s key markets

Dubai, UAE, August 5, 2022: GMG – a global well-being company retailing, distributing, and manufacturing a portfolio of leading international and home-grown brands across its sports, food, and health sectors has announced the launch of its new sustainability strategy framework. The new framework will enable GMG to make a positive and transformative contribution to the environment and society as a whole as well as to its stakeholders and operations.

The framework which was developed in conjunction with EY, is built around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and based on three key pillars: Planet Forward, Spark People, and Own Change.

Make a Difference:

The ‘Planet Forward’ pillar is aimed at ensuring that our company actions are geared towards building a better planet for everyone, not just for the business, by tackling energy, water, and waste management.

The ‘Spark People’ pillar is focused on ensuring the well-being of employees by supporting their career growth, as well as ensuring equality and their health, safety, and well-being.

The ‘Own Change’ pillar aims to inspire people to own and drive change for continuous growth and operational excellence across all of GMG’s business units.

Commenting on the launch of the new sustainability strategy, Mohammad A Baker, Deputy Chairman and CEO of GMG, said, “As a global company, we believe that setting an ESG framework is key to fostering business evolution, mitigating risks and challenges, and most importantly, making a positive and responsible impact on people and the environment. Our values will serve as a compass in guiding our brand, while our sustainability framework will reflect our operational ethos as we continue our global expansion journey.”

“The ‘Make a Difference’ sustainability strategy which is aligned to key global and local sustainability trends, showcases GMG’s commitment to creating positive, transformative change across the region and beyond through its three strategic pillars: ‘Planet Forward, ‘Spark People’ and ‘Own Change.’ These have been developed to address the issues and topics that matter most to GMG and its stakeholders and create a positive and long-lasting impact,” said Yasir Ahmad, Partner and leader, of Sustainability Services, EY MENA.

Alignment to Sustainability Goals:

GMG’s sustainability strategy is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across its global operations as well as the UAE’s own sustainability goals. The UAE has set up a National Committee on SDGs to facilitate the alignment of SDGs across the private and public sectors and has embedded SDGs into its national agenda.

The twelve countries across which GMG operates are already making headway with their national sustainability agendas, including three of its key markets – the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.  The UAE became the first country in the Gulf to launch an SDG Data Hub to actively track and monitor progress made toward SDGs. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 includes a series of objectives and programs that overlap with the UN agenda. For example, the Kingdom has developed the National Renewable Energy program to diversify its energy sources and embrace clean energy. In Singapore, the government has integrated SDGs into its Green Plan 2030.

GMG will publish its first sustainability report early next year that will reveal the company’s performance across ESG pillars, highlight key achievements, and set the direction for the future.

The House Hotel Old Tbilisi and Blue Fox restaurant open in Tbilisi’s Old Town

The Best Luxury Boutique Hotel to offer genuine Georgian hospitality & curated community experiences

Tbilisi, July 25, 2022: Across the street from the 6 century Anchiskhati Basilica, in the heart of Tbilisi’s charming Old Town, Kerten Hospitality, a mixed-use, ESG and lifestyle operator, has opened The House Hotel Old Tbilisi, its first of three lifestyle hospitality projects in Georgia. The three-story, 17- room hotel was once the Nikolozishvili mansion and blends that traditional charm with chic sensibility. Each room is distinguished by a historical Georgian character painted by local mural artist, Musya Qeburia, and features custom-made furnishings from Georgian oak, parquet floors and marble bathrooms with a rain shower. Suites feature Tbilisi’s trademark wooden balconies with a view of the nearby Mtkvari River and pedestrian street below. In a cozy district of crooked streets and houses, medieval churches, museums, wine bars, and many attractions, The House Hotel Old Tbilisi is Tbilisi’s newest landmark and a destination in itself.

Tbilisi-based for the opening of the property, Antony Doucet, Chief Experience Officer at Kerten Hospitality, said: “This art hotel in the city’s most historic part will allow guests and visitors to get the feel, to connect to and to experience trully the Neighbourhood and the destination. Our close-knit collaboration with our UBBU teams (UBBU – United. Building a Better Universe – Kerten Hospitality’s ESG initiative) will bring the focus on Locality and Sustainability all curated around tailored experiences that ultimately create true human connections and support local do-good causes as well.”

The House Hotel is a fast-growing, award winning, luxury lifestyle brand recognized globally for quality and individuality. Its trademark is blending local art and culture with classic and contemporary styles to create an authentic and unique experience in every location. With a pipeline portfolio of over 40 projects, Kerten Hospitality is all about working organically with its local environment to tell a story that compliments the aesthetics of the region, celebrates local culture and supports the local community. The House Hotel Old Tbilisi’s local team understand cordiality and hospitality are a priority, but in Georgia, where guests are considered gifts from God, hospitality is second nature.

Nikoloz Kurdadze, GM of The House Hotel Old Tbilisi, said, ”We are very excited to open our doors for guests and the community in such a unique destination where meaningful connections and lasting memories will be built after experiencing the real sense of Georgian hospitality, cuisine, art and cultural heritage.”

Traditional buildings in Tbilisi have what locals call “Italian Courtyards,” intimate social areas where residents gather to play backgammon and dominoes, hang laundry and gossip while children play. The House Hotel Old Tbilisi has renovated its courtyard to provide much of the same warmth and neighborliness with a bar that mixes special cocktails and uncorks exclusive Georgian wines from its own grower, while rapturous meals are served at tables around an olive tree for both hotel guests and walk-in visitors. Those who set foot in the property will also enjoy viewing a special collection of Georgian contemporary art pieces from the personal collection of the hotel owner.

Tbilisi has emerged from obscurity to become a world heavyweight culinary destination, yet only a few restaurants offer a high quality fine dining experience. Chef Jaume Puigdengolas, a Barcelona native, earned his Michelin stars in Marbella before creating the F&B concepts for Kerten Hospitality. The Blue Fox, named after an old Georgian cartoon character, is a 72-seat restaurant and the chef’s latest achievement. Riffing off of Tbilisi’s multi-cultural heritage, Chef Jaume’s menu combines western and eastern ideas with a Georgian foundation to create something uniquely Tbilisian. “I respect traditions and work closely with local products and producers,” he says.

Khachapuri is one of Georgia’s most iconic dishes. Chef Jaume simply turns the stuffed bread inside out, with beans and marinated onions on top, or marinated salmon, lemon and cucumber, or Sulguni and Imeretian cheese with local truffles. There are several more, which he calls “Pizzettas.” Georgian tomatoes and cucumbers are among the best in the world, which may explain why they are a salad staple on every table in the country. Chef Jaume has playfully tweaked the salad by serving tomato wedges on a pool of lightly spiced cucumber gazpacho. Although clearly not Georgian, Caesar Salads have recently appeared on nearly every menu in the country. The Spanish chef dipped into his roots and turned the salad into a tapas – a chicken croquette stuffed with béchamel and served on a leaf of Romaine. Main dishes include a tribute to Georgian mtsvadi – skewered meat roasted over coals. Here, they include marinated chicken, and the tenderest beef in the country, served with a selection of locally spiced dipping sauces. Some might call it fusion, but The Blue Fox is simply continuing the Tbilisi tradition of innovation.

Tbilisi’s legacy is built upon the Great Silk Road where it was an important trading hub, bridging Europe with Asia. This is evident in Tbilisi’s Old Town, where the local mosque is around the corner from the local synagogue, which is next to an Armenian church. An old Zoroastrian temple is above. Nearly a century of communism devastated this heritage, but it is now being rebuilt by individuals and groups like Kerten Hospitality. The House Hotel Old Tbilisi is now part and parcel of the “New Silk Road,” a modern hub where nations come to meet, mingle relax, and have a truly one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experience.

The House Hotel Old Tbilisi opens on July 25th, 2022.

Kerten Hospitality continues to lead the New Age of hospitality

With the appointment of Antony Doucet as Chief Experience Officer (CxO) the operating group replaced the traditional Commercial function

DUBAI, July 4, 2022: Kerten Hospitality –  a mixed-use, ESG and lifestyle hospitality group operating hotels, branded residences, collaborative social and business Hubs complemented by food and beverage, under its brands The House Hotel and Residence, Cloud7 Hotel and Residence and Ouspace – is putting their actions where their mouths are by transforming the traditional Commercial function, into a broader role, that includes experiences across the board. From the first owner interaction, to the curation and scouting of their teams, the locally-inspired design and a project’s soft elements, to the way the Group communicates, markets, sells and connects – as human interactions take centre stage in hospitality.

The Chief Experience Officer (CxO) works in very close collaboration with the Operations and Ubbu teams (Ubbu – United. Building a Better Universe, Kerten Hospitality’s ESG initiative) to connect operational practises and processes, with locality and sustainability, packaged in tailored experiences, motivating and supporting teams to be themselves, to create these true human connections. If you own, work or stay in a location, you should get the feel, connect, and experience it truly – easier said than done. It seems to be easier to Globalise everything, then to Localise everything.

Commenting on his new role, Antony Doucet (CxO), who has been the DNA of Kerten Hospitality’s brands for many years and assumed the role of a Chief Experience Officer (CxO) effective July 1st, said: “Brillat Savarin, a French lawyer and politician who wrote The Physiology of Taste used to say: To invite a guest is to take the responsibility of his happiness during his stay under our roof.” In our Kerten Hospitality way, this would read: To invite guests, is to take the responsibility of their happiness, their emotions during their stay and connect them with our community…”

Marloes Knippenberg, CEO of Kerten Hospitality said: “Antony is a great example of someone who organically creates unique and community-connecting experiences that touch all senses. Antony brings together guests, partners, owners and the local community through purposeful events and interactions. Being a big-picture thinker, Antony has worked hard to inject this DNA into processes, and ways, deeply rooted into the entire organisation. We cannot wait to share our new curated destinations coming out in the next six months in different locations and countries, with a variety of offerings that range from eco-luxury glamping, to hotels with art residency in rural areas, to child-free experience hotels where the lobby is an actual stage.”

Antony who is currently based in Tbilisi, Georgia, for the opening of The House Hotel Old Tbilisi this week, gave some simple examples of how true and real these experiences are.

“Just 2 days ago, I organized a meeting with Tako Kvaratskehelia, who’s 26 years old and the founder of Rukhi Queen www.rukhiqueen.ge. She won the silver medal of London Honey Awards in 2021. At only 26 years of age, she has 400 bee hives and her honey is in such demand that she started to create a cooperative with other bee keepers. She met our 2 Chefs Jaume Puigdengolas Michelin star chef, who’s currently training our local Chef Alex Akopyan, and we will now have one signature dessert with her chestnut honey and our welcome amenities will be “Gozinaki” a Georgian specialty with honey and nuts. The idea is really to embrace, support and celebrate this kind of people”

The Group’s multiple UBBU initiatives will further involve guests to donate time for good causes: A great way to do good, to share an experience and to connect to the local community.

Doucet has helped redefine the Concept of Bleisure, a word he has been using for years, much longer than it has been “in”. Creating environments where Business and Leisure meet, get motivated, can be productive, and never want to leave from. Luxury in hospitality is about space, design harmony, carbon footprint reduction, community impact, staff engagement, food sourcing, to name a few factors. This philosophy has laid the grounds for the curated Experiential direction of Kerten.

Who is the man behind the Experiences’ creation at Kerten Hospitality? Antony’s career launched with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, followed by multiple roles in France, Switzerland before joining Hyatt International where he opened the VIP & Celebrity Department at Park Hyatt Paris Vendome. After 12 years with Hyatt, he became an indispensable member of the Kerten Hospitality family where from a Brand and Marketing director, he has taken the reigns to support the growth of the Group’s portfolio by injecting the experiential factor in every destination.

Industry’s Only Family of Standard Non-Hybrid Space-Grade Power Converters Now Includes 28 Volt (V)-Input Radiation-Tolerant Options

  • Microchip’s alternatives to inflexible hybrid-style converters improve design flexibility while reducing system size, cost and development time

India, January 27, 2022 — Space system designers cannot easily support non-standard voltages or add functions with traditional hybrid-style power converters. Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) has eliminated the cost, complexity and customization challenges of these hybrid solutions by offering a discrete-component-based, space-grade DC-DC power converter family that now includes 28V-input, 50-watt (W) radiation-tolerant options.

“Our latest 28V-input SA50-28 products greatly simplify and accelerate system development,” said Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip’s discrete product business unit. “They are easier to customize than alternative space-grade power converters so they can meet specific voltage, current and other needs. Customers gain flexibility while reducing the size, cost and complexity of their space system designs.”

Microchip’s SA50-28 family is the industry’s only off-the-shelf, 28V-input, radiation-tolerant power converter offering that is based on discrete components with surface-mount construction and non-hybrid assembly processes. Delivering more capabilities than alternative off-the-shelf, space-grade power converters, a single SA50-28 device with customized parameters eliminates the volume, weight and complexity problems of using hybrid solutions with their multiple devices and surrounding circuitry.

Microchip’s comprehensive SA50-28 product line is a 20V- to 40V-input, 50W family with nine standard outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V and 28V in single- and triple-output configurations. The devices can be tailored to a system’s exacting power needs in a relatively short time with minimal additional costs as compared to hybrid-style power converter products. Other features include high efficiency, low output noise, output inhibit control, overcurrent protection, external synchronization and full-rated power operation through −55°C to +85°C with linear derating to +125°C. The SA50-28 family is part of Microchip’s growing line of standard non-hybrid, space-grade power converters that enable designers to use commercially available, off-the-shelf components whose circuitry has a proven spaceflight heritage. The products join the radiation-hardened SA50- 120 power converter family, introduced in February 2021 that reduces risk and development time for qualified space systems by allowing designers to start with proven commercially available off the shelf technology in ceramic or plastic packages and quickly scaling up development using lower screening levels than traditional Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) requirements.

Availability

Microchip’s radiation-tolerant SA50-28 family is available for volume production and limited sampling. Prototype-grade units are available from stock, and non-radiation-tolerant engineering units are also available with the same performance as the space-grade units at a lower cost. ICICI Bank makes ‘InstaBIZ’ interoperable; instantly empowers merchants with digital collection solutions

ICICI Bank today announced that it has made ‘InstaBIZ’ interoperable, making the benefits of its business banking mobile app available to all merchants including customers of other banks. The first-of-its kind initiative enables merchants- owners of grocery shops, supermarkets, restaurants, stationery stores and pharmacies and professionals like doctors and lawyers to instantly create digital collection solutions like UPI ID and QR code, and start collecting money from their customers immediately. They can also digitally apply for Point of Sale (POS) device. Further, they can transform their shops into an online store in just 30 minutes, and apply for a voice messaging device that confirms the receipt of the payments.

  • The first-of-its kind app enables merchants to link account of any bank with it
  • Merchants can instantly create UPI ID and QR code on the app; start collecting money immediately
  • They can also apply for POS; quickly convert their physical shop into an online store
  • It offers fully digital and instant KYC process

Any merchant, no matter it has a current/savings account with ICICI Bank or not, can avail the solutions by simply downloading the ‘InstaBIZ’ app from Play Store and link their bank account. This initiative features a completely online and instant Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Merchants do not need to visit any branch nor upload any document. The initiative leverages upon advanced APIs of the Bank that instantly and digitally validate PAN/ Aadhaar number which is required for verification of KYC.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Anup Bagchi, Executive Director, ICICI Bank said, “We at ICICI Bank always believe that the self-employed and the MSME segment forms the backbone of the Indian economy. A large part of this segment consists of retail merchants. It is our endeavour to support merchants- around two crore across the country by offering them solutions that make their business easy. With this aim, we were the first to introduce ‘InstaBIZ’, a mobile banking app for businesses, two-and-a-half years ago.

We believe that the benefits of our products and services should not be restricted only to our customers; those who bank with others should also avail them. In line with this philosophy of ‘open architecture’ of our digital banking platforms, we made ‘iMobilePay’, our mobile app for personal banking, available to any individual last year. It was the first of its kind initiative in the industry. Similarly, we are now delighted to extend the ease, speed and safety of ‘InstaBIZ’ to merchants having accounts with any bank in the country, another industry-first initiative. Now, any merchant can instantly avail digital collection services from ‘InstaBIZ’ and immediately start collecting money from their customers. Merchants also get the advantage to get their KYC process done in a fully digital and paperless manner without visiting a branch of the Bank. We believe that this new and unique digital offering resonates with merchants across the country, as it frees up their bandwidth to a large extent, which they can devote to grow their main business.”

Here are the benefits of the digital collection services of ‘InstaBIZ’ for any merchant:
Key benefits:
Create UPI instantly: Merchants having bank account with any bank can download the app, instantly link their bank account and generate a UPI ID easily. This helps them to collect payment physically at the store, home deliveries and online payments. The facility provides instant settlement of payment in the merchant’s account as compared to the industry practice of getting it credited on the next day.
Create QR code instantly: Merchants can instantly create and activate QR code and link it with their account in any other bank. They can then generate digital QR codes with specific amounts and share it with customers digitally on email or messaging platforms. They can also take print outs, keep it at their stores and start collecting payment immediately.
Apply and manage POS: Merchants can apply for POS through the app itself and receive it in a day if they are based in major cities. They can digitally place service requests like indents for paper roll, terminal issue, activating EMI, international card acceptance, statement request, transaction status, GST invoice among others, through ‘InstaBIZ’. They can also track status of all applications of their POS device itself.

Value-added services:
Create digital store: The facility enables merchants of any bank to create digital store on ‘EazyStore’ mobile app. They can choose from over 500 attractive templates and catalogues to design their digital store. The facility also enables merchants to create promotional campaigns, manage invoicing, inventory and collections. The digital stores can be created in flat 30 minutes by just four clicks.
Apply for UPI contactless solutions: Merchants can order counter standee/ plaque for UPI payments from the app itself in quick and easy steps. They can also apply for a voice messaging device, ‘EazySound’, to get real time instant payment confirmation for both successful as well as failed transactions.
Loyalty programme: The merchants are also offered ‘Eazy Rewards Programme’, another industry first feature. With this, merchants accepting instant cashless payments from customers through POS/QR solution, get points for transactions which can be redeemed for shopping, vouchers, vacations among others.
