The History of the ICC Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy is a special tournament in cricket. The first tournament was played in the year 1998 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. South Africa won this match by beating the West Indies in the final match. ICC Champion has played a major role in making ODI cricket popular, bringing the finest cricket teams together, and playing together.

Initially, the tournament was simple; if a team lost, they simply went home.

With time, the tournament evolved and became bigger, with teams playing in groups before the final knockout matches. In the year 2002, the tournament was named the ICC Champions Trophy, and something unusual happened: India and Sri Lanka both won together because the rain stopped the final match twice in Colombo.

The match started becoming better and more exciting with time. Australia was the first team to win two times in a row using 2006 and 2009 matches. In 2013, India won by defeating England in a final. In the last match in 2017, Pakistan won the first-ever Champions Trophy by beating their rivals India.
