Charis Michelsen: Helping People Look and Feel Their Best

Imagine if you landed in New York from a small town in Oregon to study art and fashion design at Parsons School of Design/The New School and within two weeks were scouted to model by a photographer for Harper ’s BAZAAR magazine while standing on a street corner. Sounds fascinating! Right?

This is the story of Charis Michelsen, the Founder/CEO of Fashion Style Beauty Network.

Modeling led to acting in movies for Charis, and while on set, she was inspired by the wonderful work she saw created by make-up artists and stylists and decided to take classes to get her professional makeup artist’s certification for fun. She’s since worked as a national and international spokesperson and product educator for one of the world’s most prestigious cosmetic brands and a makeup artist for celebrities, music videos, and movies. During her tenure as a spokesperson for the cosmetic brand, the top question she was asked was, “How do I look my best?” Charis told us, “everyone wants to know how to go from looking plain, like a star without makeup, to a star on the red carpet. So, I set out to create a foolproof scientific system that could give each person this experience, as well as answers to tough beauty-related questions that didn’t have answers — and thank God I succeeded.”

From her discoveries, Charis created the world’s first Universal Beauty Standard System™ and some original make-up application techniques. After one of her dear friends pointed out that she must put her findings in a book to reach a greater audience, she did, and entitled it ‘Hollywood Beauty: The Art of Star Makeup.’ Charis wrote a second book for men and named it ‘Grooming for Men: From Dirty to Polished.’

Charis’s two books are self-illustrated and styled to be coffee table books. They’re viewable on her website, which is charismichelsen.com. They aren’t available for sale yet but will be soon.

Charis applied her Universal Beauty Standard System™ to fashion and cosmetic products and created an artificial intelligence (AI) personal stylist that connects an individual with their ideal clothing, accessories, and cosmetics and styles them. Charis’AI Stylist answers the question ‘what should I wear?’ for everyone, but without dictating personal style to anyone. She believes her AI Stylist will reduce returns for fashion and cosmetic vendors, which will help increase their profits.

Charis also developed a glossy half-hour documentary-style TV show she hosts entitled Fashion Style Beauty. The Fashion Style beauty TV show explores the exciting and entertaining world of fashion, beauty, and style and offers fashion and cosmetic happenings, history, information, education, and advice.

She’s also designed and patented a diamond-dot pattern that’s expressed in twenty colors. Her pattern contains a unique color technology that helps each color act as a neutral, so it’s more compatible with a range of outfits.

Charis added, “I would like to eventually launch a line of fashion and beauty products. The AI Stylist, along with other unique features, such as reliable, educational fashion, style, and beauty content, will be housed on an online platform, Fashion Style Beauty Network.”

Charis’s Fashion Style Beauty Network is an online shopping network, like Amazon, that allows vendors to sell fashion and cosmetic products to consumers, but thanks to Charis’ game-changing AI Stylist, vendors’ products will be directed to the consumers they’re most correct for. And users can shop for and purchase fashion and cosmetic items, similar to how one shops on eBay, that are ideal for them or their clients, if they’re a professional stylist, via their Stylist account on the Fashion Style Beauty Network platform.

Path Breaking Services

Fashion Style Beauty Network offers three distinctive features:

  • Fashion, style, and beauty content, endowed with Charis’s expertise, to entertain and educate consumers on how to choose and use cosmetic and fashion products and services for best-individualized results.
  • Curated information and news that could inspire the purchase of fashion and cosmetic products.
  • Revolutionary self-service Artificial Intelligence (AI) personal shopper technology founded on a science-based Universal Beauty Standard System™, providing ideal, personalized product, service, and styling suggestions.

And the best part is, all these features offer real-time links that connect users to the Fashion Style Beauty Network platform’s other features, so users can conveniently purchase beauty and fashion products and services at peak interest times, which could profoundly enhance fashion and cosmetic vendors’ ability and frequency to reach their ideal target market and increase sales.

Improved Client Satisfaction

Fashion Style Beauty Network’s clients are multi-ethnic, all-gender consumers of beauty and fashion products and services between the ages of 18-75 who aspire to look and feel great.

According to Charis Michelsen, the Fashion Style Beauty Network online platform will provide its consumers with a one-of-a-kind experience and help them look and feel their best.

First Mover Advantage

With never-before-seen features that solve huge industry problems, like the AI Stylist, reliable educational content backed by the world’s first Universal Beauty Standard System™ and Charis’ books, which are world’s most comprehensive beauty resources, and having a founder with credible, expert-level fashion and beauty knowledge, Charis Michelsen is in a position to disrupt the industry .

According to Charis, no other company offers what Fashion Style Beauty Network offers. She added, “Like Martha Stewart, who’s the face of her successful brand related to the home, I’ll use my fashion and beauty expertise, spokesperson background and face, and Fashion Style Beauty Network platform’s unique offerings, to elevate Fashion Style Beauty Network.”

A Proud Entrepreneur

Charis has always been a firm supporter of women in business and has contributed to publications like H3R Magazine, a women’s business magazine. She’s very proud of women entrepreneurs and hopes to see more women supporting women.

Charis pointed out, “I don’t consider myself at any disadvantage in the business world because I’m a woman. As a woman, I single-handedly created an Artificial Intelligence [AI] Stylist, which a male entrepreneur I know of hired MIT to create, yet MIT failed at creating.”

When it comes to the challenge of being a leader, Charis believes a genuine leader, no matter the business, must encompass the ability to show gratitude, be a mentor, value others’ opinions, encourage others, and have open conversations.

Awards and Accolades

Charis, who’s ranked number five out of the world’s top makeup artists by Ranker, was awarded the title of one of the ‘Top 30 Most Inspiring Women To Look Out For In 2022” by Disruptors Magazine, a publication for the world’s most successful leaders, executives, and investors, named “One Of The Top 30 Personalities Disrupting The Fashion Industry In 2022” by the top business magazine the NY Journal, and deemed the new face of the beauty industry by Vigour Magazine. She’s also been nicknamed the “Martha Stewart of Makeup”, as both she and Martha Stewart use their expertise and face to represent their brands.

Future Roadmap

When asked about the future roadmap of Fashion Beauty Network, Charis Michelsen said, “I want my company to be the Amazon of personal shopping for fashion and cosmetic products.” Charis Michelsen believes her company will build fashion and cosmetic vendors’ businesses and help individuals find ideal cosmetic and fashion products. She added, “My AI Stylist’s personal styling feature, which can style an individual better than a celebrity stylist, will change lives for the better, by maximizing a customer ’s wardrobe and giving them more self-confidence through guaranteeing they always look their best.” In the next five years, she expects her company to thrive and be a catalyst for an upcoming change in the industry.

Meena Krishnan: The Steadfast Leader

In this edition of Most Empowering Business Women to watch out, we would like to tell a story about life, struggle, and entrepreneurship. This is the story of Meena Krishnan who is the President and CEO of Inoventures, LLC. Her story stands to show how overcoming obstacles can leave a positive impact on the economy, community, and personal growth. Faced with the sudden tragedy of losing her entire family (she grew up with) in a car accident, Meena was stunned on her career path.

After many weeks of self-reflection, she realized change was the only constant, and facing it head-on was the only option. She decided to carry on the legacy of her departed family by impacting the community in a meaningful way .

This realization became the energy behind starting her own company, Inoventures with a drive to make an impact. Along with her two Master’s degrees in Econometrics and Systems Engineering with Ph.D. experience, she went back to Wharton Business School and equipped herself with the necessary tools to be an entrepreneur. Driven by a unique core value system, customer-centric focus, and employee-centric policies, Meena’s company Inoventures has seen a staggering growth of 3255% in 2014-2016.

The organization is completely employee-centric; all of its staff works from home and yet provides top-notch services resulting in mutual synergies. Allowing employees to strike a work-life balance while instilling innovation has enabled us to provide top-notch customer satisfaction.

Solving Clients’ Needs with Great Services

Meena says, “Our customers are Federal Government and Commercial customers. We practice our core values in providing our day-to-day services.” The company’s core values include top-notch customer service, employee engagement, and innovation. Meena and her team at Inoventures make sure they engage with their employees to serve the customers in the best possible way. The organization always thinks of “what is our customer’s pain point?” because if it does not have a happy customer, it does not have an opportunity to serve. With employee engagement and the importance of innovation, they have created a self-fulfilling value system that perpetuates trust and faith from the customers.

Standing Out in a Competitive Market

“When we do our work with the core values mentioned above, our brand speaks for itself.” says Meena Krishnan. The company certainly shares its joy with the industry via traditional social media. However, the organization believes in being humble and authentic to its mission-critical customer base. Then its customers spread the word about the brand which is the most essential ingredient for sustaining brand value.

Tackling the Pandemic

Inoventures is doing its business in the Public Health domain, and it has been making a difference at the Indian Health Services in preventing COVID 19 among the 500 plus Tribal populations. The company just proposed a unique approach to contact tracing within those populations, adhering to the cultural sensitivities of the tribal communities. While it is always able to rapidly deploy cutting-edge technology, it can also scale back, as needed, if a tribal population requires a different approach. In some cases, Inoventures proposed appointing cultural ambassadors with whom the populations feel comfortable sharing information. As a result, there is a better dialogue between Inoventures and the populations, enabling faster data collection and analysis resulting in accurate solutions delivery. The methodologies are the same, but the mechanics are different, in terms of the delivery.

Suggestions for Young Entrepreneurs

When we requested Meena Krishnan for a piece of advice for all the upcoming entrepreneurs, she says, “When it comes to business, men and women face the same challenges. Being aware of these challenges and creating support systems wherever possible will be critical. No challenge is the same so recognizing our strengths and weaknesses will allow us to seek help when needed.” She also added, “As women, connecting with fellow women leaders will be a critical factor in helping each other so I recommend organizations like Women Impacting Public Policy and Women In Technology to consider as they have made a difference for women leaders.”

Future Roadmap

Moving forward, both Meena Krishnan and Inoventures is focused on expanding their Public Health and COVID-19 prevention solutions—such as improving existing contact tracing methods through advanced technologies. Furthermore, the company is actively collaborating with more modern technology partners, providing them both business opportunities and a window into the vast sphere of public health. These partnerships also lend to Inoventures’ commitment to continually upgrade on the technology front, as evidenced by the recently launched Health Cloud solution that runs on the AWS platform. Furthermore, the company offers its clients unique procurement methodologies, enabling customers to procure work more efficiently. Inoventures will be a Public Health IT leader making a huge impact on global and population health.

Tamara Mosidze: Redefining Home Health Care

Meet Tamara Mosidze, the founder and CEO of Premier Care LLC, which is a fully bonded and insured, dedicated non-medical home care service provider licensed in Connecticut and New York.

With a dream and vision to make a better life for herself, her family, and others in need Tamara immigrated to America from the country of Georgia 23 years ago. Before embarking on her professional journey she used her knowledge in health care and began working with Greenwich physicians, caring for their patients for over 15 years. Work experience and instant rapport with physicians and other health care workers earned Tamara a stellar reputation as a caregiver extraordinaire and smart businesswoman.

In 2015, Tamara followed her passion and started Premier Care LLC, an award-winning, non-medical home care agency offering affordable care for seniors and individuals with chronic or acute conditions. Premier Care’s services are provided in homes, assisted leaving, and senior facilities. Premier Care operates on the belief with the right kind of assistance and support, individuals can remain safely in their own houses, where people feel the greatest sense of purpose and they are most comfortable and happy.

Premier Care LLC’s services include Companion and Homemaker, Personal Care, and Specialized Care Services.

Solving Client’s Requirements

As an organization, Premier Care serves high-profile clients. The clients are mostly seniors, others with disabilities, chronic and acute conditions. Tamara’s team does free assessment and evaluation to learn about the client’s needs, including their medical history, level of care, personality, and lifestyle. Premier Care creates uniquely designed care plans for each client and then the organization matches the right individual by his/her background, personality, and work experience. Tamara believes each client is unique and requires a special approach and attention to certain details for a successful outcome.

Premier Care’s caregivers are special people with special skills, they are educated, intelligent, honest, and kind. Tamara and her team handpick each employee, they have mastered their skills choosing the right people. Tamara is an advocate of her clients, the client is a priority, then she supports the employees, they are the ones who shine this company.

The Pandemic

During the pandemic most caregiving agencies experienced a decrease in demand for home visits, reflecting clients’ concern about infection, family members assuming care duties, and/or aides being unavailable for work. However, Premier Care was able to maintain a healthy and safe environment within the agency, taking all necessary actions to keep clients and caregivers safe. So, the agency switched home visits by zoom calls and other online services. Under Tamara’s leadership, the organization started developing more extensive infection prevention policies, procedures, and workforce training and sourcing personal protective equipment (PPE).

During the pandemic, Premier Care updated its approach to business, as many other companies have and most administrative work, appointments, and interviews were done online. The world became digital and Tamara alongside her team adopted a new lifestyle very quickly and safely. Life felt different, times were very challenging, clients felt isolated, as care giving company, Premier Care had to give a tremendous amount of support. Despite all of the challenges, Premier Care has maintained a good reputation, demand is still growing, need for home care services has also increased.

Entrepreneurship in a Male-Dominated Society

Tamara says, “It’s ironic that most home care agency owners are males and have strong business and money-making skills. Some of them even come from wall street or banking backgrounds to do home health care business. Women are different than men and we have a different approach for this type of business.” She also adds, “We put our hearts and souls in what we do, we personalize our service., we hear peoples’ problems, we salve their problems and we take very good care of our employees.”

Although she believes, the Home Health Care field has the majority of female workers, who include nurses, social workers, case managers, and doctors.

When it comes to entrepreneurship, Tamara considers it as the core of the American Dream and there are several approaches to it including Sociological, Psychological, Political, etc. She feels entrepreneurship is a constant desire to make things better, ability to recognize opportunity, and create value. Each client gives Premier Care different ideas and requires a different approach, for Tamara and her team, it’s a learning curve and one rule doesn’t apply to all. Clients have different ethnicities and different cultures, it’s critically important to have the ability to understand the feelings and needs of others. Tamara feels she and her team needs to be good leaders and role models to their employees, that’s what makes them want to follow them. She feels, an entrepreneur is not a common person, they have creative, managerial, and imaginative skills and this kind of personality develops in a person who has a strong motivation for achievement.

Future Roadmap

Tamara says, “We are maintaining an excellent reputation and 5-star reviews for the past 6 years.” The agency creates a happy environment for its workers and clients as well, especially during these most unpredictable and complicated times. Premier Care LLC is a rising star amongst many other competitors. Tamara Mosidze is planning to expand her agency in new locations and expand services nationwide.

Tamara Mosidze adds, “When you get to this stage where you see your potential and capabilities, your mind opens wider, all your fears fade and you are in control benefiting yourself and others as well. Be open-minded and never mean, rude, insecure or jealous. Learn from your mistakes. Be happy for others and always give help. Generosusity is magic word, you must give whether it’s good emotion or a monatery thing. Concentrate on quality only and don’t let greed control you. Victoria Thompson: Helping Businesses to Grow with Leadership

The ability to read situations and react quickly is a key trait for entrepreneurs, but it isn’t always present. Those who are less experienced or need guidance when understanding these things often turn towards leadership coaching companies. These companies offer courses and programs that provide clients with the training and tools necessary to become successful business leaders.

Victory is Us LLC, founded by Victoria Thompson is one such leadership coaching company. Victoria has developed several customizable coaching programs that she facilitates for individuals, companies, and government clients. She has worked in leadership and training for over 12 years helping not only to lead organizations but to train others for leadership positions alongside her. The curriculum she delivers through one-on-ones, workshops, retreats, and as a motivational speaker was created to improve mindset and processes for total performance improvement.

Victoria achieves this by helping clients with company growth, goal & plan development, assessing their strengths and weaknesses, helping them grow their business from inception, and guiding them in the completion of strategic business growth tasks. She creates systems to monitor business growth and establish methods for improvement. Using spoken word poetry Victoria delivers a unique learning experience that harnesses the power of emotion to deep dive into personal and professional aspects of performance.

Victoria’s leadership education is built on an understanding of how to effectively manage people and processes. She had taken numerous courses on personal brand building, conversational leadership, and business start-up procedures. Victoria has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and Certifications in Green and Blackbelt Project Management from New Horizons. She is also a seasoned spoken word poet who has been developing her writing skills since childhood. She has learned strong leadership skills while attending Naval Aviation School to become a computer systems technician in the military. Her ability to communicate effectively, listen empathetically, drive innovation through creative problem-solving, and plan strategically is one of a kind.

Early Life

Victoria’s passion for inspiring people started at a very young age at a little white church in Beaumont, Texas. There she learned the power of the spoken word and the art of delivering a message with rhythm and genuine emotion in a powerful way. She soon started writing poetry at eleven and spoken word at about 16, fascinated by language and its ability to take people on an emotional journey. As a teen, Victoria wanted to know everything there was to know about, how to uplift and inspire people, and after the military how to heal them too.

Victoria joined the Navy as an Aviation electronics technician and it taught her how much she loved helping other people and the discipline it requires to be good at it. The military showed her what it means to lead a group through some of the toughest environments mentally, physically, and emotionally. And it left her wanting to do more, so hours after being honorably discharged she took her first psychology class. She fell in love! Discovering the science behind how the mind works felt like Disneyland, learning how mailable the brain is, and how thoughts create energetic waves was fascinating. About 6 months after getting her BS in Psychology She started working on Certifications to better assist the people she was advising. Victoria got her Certifications as a Green and Blackbelt Project Manager and learned how to translate goals and desires into achievable projects.

Throughout her career, Victoria has received many awards for her leadership skills, ability to facilitate perspective shifts, spoken word performances, and lyrical eloquence. As a Navy sailor, she received multiple ‘Plane captain of the month’ awards as well as a Cag 7 coin for exemplary leadership as shop supervisor during a detachment. She has received numerous academic awards and recognition for outstanding academic performance and is a Distinguished Texas Scholar. Victoria Thompson has been featured in Woman Entrepreneur Magazine and spoken at TEDx McHenry about the science behind spoken word poetry. She recently developed a project called “Spoken Free” to help rehabilitation efforts of at-risk youth and has been a volunteer with the COGIC for over 10 years.

The retreats and workshops are offered separately and can be included in the company programs and are priced according to duration. Victory Is Us also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for any reason on all packages, so clients can trust its commitment to providing services that are the best fit for them.

When the Pandemic Came

According to Victoria Thompson, “Studies show Covid has had a huge impact in the business coaching industry. One of the key driving factors for the business coaching industry is disposable income so when people have less income, they are less likely to hire a coach. The pandemic has caused me to shift from in-person sessions and speaking events to virtual. Victory Is Us LLC developed more virtual courses and workshops, we even had Facebook and WhatsApp groups that have become pretty popular.”

Challenges from the Male-Dominated Society

As a women entrepreneur in a male-dominated nation the biggest challenge Victoria Thompson has faced is unconscious bias. She says, “the powerful force of unconscious bias works subtly against women entrepreneurs. It refers to the inherent stereotypes we all develop regarding people such as beliefs about others based on ethnicity or gender. We are unknowingly influenced by these biases, which effects our interactions and decisions without truly knowing we are doing it. Some bias’s women face specifically include double-bind bias and assumption bias, which presents a challenge for me and any woman in leadership.”

Victoria’s approach to entrepreneurship is to constantly develop higher levels of self-awareness. According to her, just like in the military, the journey of an entrepreneur requires quite a bit of self-mastery to thrive. “The better I am able to understand myself as a person, my strengths and weaknesses, the better prepared I can set and accomplish the goals I’ve created. Understanding how I am perceived by others and how that is constantly evolving helps improve my interpersonal relationships.”

Victoria Thompson believes, another challenge faced by various women leaders who are slowly emerging, is the lack of sponsorships, which eventually stops the growth of many female entrepreneurs. According to Harvard Business Review, women struggles more than their male counterpart to reach the c-suite due to the lack of good sponsorships, which provides much-needed steppingstone opportunities. “

Motivating Leadership Teams

The vision for Victory Is Us LLC is to: “inspire, motivate, and support both young and senior leadership teams through building self-awareness, selfmanagement, and problem-solving skills to master a lucrative career and passionate personal life.” During the next 3-5 years Victoria Thompson plans to focus on acquiring funding for expansion, increasing brand awareness, building clientele, and further developing the organization’s Spoken Free Project. The Spoken Free Project is a rehabilitation program designed to help marginalized youth gain the skills necessary to transition back into society in a meaningful way. Victory is Us LLC’s goal is to expand from one correctional facility to the rest of the region within the next 5 years.

Why do we need more digital leader in the insurance industry?

The insurance industry is working on digital process optimalisation. They are learning a lot: how can we develop new business models and special new service models, to support the needs of clients and to achieve the „heart of customers“.

For this purpose they use a design thinking approach, analyzing trends and using business model canvas. But they shouldn‘t learn only methods, but also how new technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, internet of things or predictive analytics work. This combination is very important to be „fit for the future“, to be a digital leader!

Because the digital leaders will be the winner and as you know „the winner takes it all“!  I think, most of our challenges are coming from the complexity of digital transformation and the complexity of the insurance branche. How should we start? Should we start with processes, products, organization, clients or employees? Should we cooperate with a startup or should we be a startup, as digital insurer or should we found a venture and invest in startups? I realized, there are so many questions and also so many ideas developing step by step the digital insurance DNA for the next generation. As you know, today, to develop a digital approach, to change your legacy system, to develop your culture and organization, to „teach“ your clients to use your apps. It takes time to see the results and appropriate profits. If you invest into the future, you need enough resources (time, money, quality) to develop a long term perspective. The insurance industry is only on the starting point of this transformation journey.

I`ve prepared an „insurance landscape“ about the status of startups and insurance companies/corporate ventures from the perspective, whether they are cooperation or competition.

Our exponentional developing business life required a exponentional learning developing.

The insurance world was very closed world. From closed value chain from developing new insurance products, through sale the product and in case of damage regular the claims.

But the technology is supporting us to do our process more efficient, quick, to develop more customer convenience. Our InTa – Insury Talent Network supports young (re)insurance professionals & brokers to understand the new insurance innovation world and act like a “Champion“.

The insurance industry has the power to do the right things in the right direction with understanding the customers, education talents, develop the right vision, strategy and company culture, use the most important technology. If your „Innovation House“ ready is, you can do your job with passion and enthusiasm every day. Are you ready to understand and create a great insurance industry together?!

Kaleem & Madeeha: They revolutionised the South Australian businesses

“Taking a deep dive into the numbers is a not-so-secret passion for Kaleem and Madeeha, while finding their real joy in creating opportunities for the migrants. They are not just Business Partners but a lifelong companion”

The fearless couple, who revolutionised the South Australian Industry. Meet Kaleem Ulah and Madeeha Usman, the young entrepreneurs of Adelaide. When Usman, was offered her first role as an external auditor in PWC, within 20 days of her arrival in Australia, she was mentoring students of her age. The job was a well sought position, overseeing the external audits for a global organisation. While Kaleem, a well-trained engineer, found his passion in numbers. Being recognised by the official Institute of Public Accountants for his extraordinary vigilance and passion for accounting. Kaleem is known to be the support system for many SMEs. They are taking the accounting industry by storm. And, if you are visiting Adelaide, you are sure to be recommended by many!

This is the story of two most enigmatic leaders, who share the same vision but believe in bringing a different approach to the table and giving back to the community.

Going into Business…

In April 2016, Mr Ulah and Mrs Usman decided to start their own accounting firm. Every night, they would sit in their garage and brainstorm. Kaleem was quite popularly known by his Australian friends as Kaleem ‘Kal’. And one night, when Usman was trying to scribble and brainstorm, she was struck by an idea – And it was The Kalculators.

The Kalculators in two short years was supporting variety of entities – factory workers to multimillion – dollar turnover businesses such as pharmacies, retail stores, construction companies and service providers.

“Many of my clients are high net worth individuals, which we define as anyone with over $5 million in liquid financial assets. These clients are often either retired or run successful businesses including franchises, and managing stock portfolios and estates

When asked Usman, about the vision she brings,

“Everything we do, and the success we have, is due to our root vision of treating customers with transparency and equality”

While, Kaleem’s home-made tax form, was hitting a speedy road to success. Madeeha’s business vision towards creating a sustainable firm became the backbone of the organisation.

“I remember back in the day a client asked me why I was using my own Word printout. Everyone else was using computers and there I was with my piece of paper. But clients liked my resourcefulness, and years later my very first clients are still with me,” reveals Mr Ulah.

Two short years later, Madeeha and Kaleem were managing 10 offices throughout Adelaide and over 10,000 clients.

The couple owes their success to the fellow migrants. And believe, a leader must give back to the society to create a stronger root for the generations to come.

Kaleem and Madeeha have helped countless newcomers adjust to life in Australia.

“Most of my clients have migrated from other countries. They don’t know any accountants and they don’t know enough about the local laws. So, they need someone who can teach them and who can speak their own language,” says Mr Ulah.

“My wife and I thought, ‘we have the resources, we have everything, so let’s go and offer international students the opportunity to learn how to do tax returns’,” he explains.

“International students spend a lot of money on their studies, but finding employment for them, is very hard. The reason is that students are learning the theory, but lacking the practical experience,” says Mr Ulah.

“we have hired a professional trainer who trains the international students on how to use software and how to execute tax returns in real time. They also observe our accountants while they are on the job. Slowly we bring them to a professional level.”

“Once they complete it, we offer the dedicated ones a job in one of my offices,” he says.

So, eager to grow with their community, the couple allows international students to develop practical experience with the aim of easing their integration into the Australian workforce.

Madeeha, who is known to be the philanthropist by some, mentors for many, and Tax Lady by her team. Mentors students at the Oxford University, who are working towards their PHD dr.

Being recognised as one of the most powerful women in the accounting industry, Madeeha was honoured as an Ausmumpreneur in 2021. Usman encourages and supports young mothers to create a life of their own dreams.

Madeeha’s mentoring was a compelling one, she always conveyed the inspirational thought

“If you fail don’t lose hope because as the wise saying goes, we can’t change the direction of the wind but we can certainly adjust the sales”

Yet being one of the most influential women in business, you can’t just dismiss Madeeha as an accountant. She is also the author of her recently launched book, “The Women Changing The World” – A story of her life and other powerful women, who choose to lead life the harder way – to set an example for women, who are still doubting their abilities to build themselves.

As per Madeeha, “This book is not only for women, but to inspire daughters, and sons, for the generations to come”

“Getting to the top at the expense of another woman is not a sustainable way to get ahead, and, most importantly, doesn’t help our case. The only way that women will be seen as equal in business is by making sure that there are more women accomplishing what they deserve in the workforce, and that takes encouragement”

“This book is not just stories, but real life journeys, relatable role models – where women in Australia are changing the world through entrepreneurialism, education, conscious living, advocacy and innovation”.

“Game Changers”

Madeeha and Kaleem both used their positions to encourage the young migrants to pursue their dream. As a result, The Kalculators earned recognition for “Diversity Inclusion” in 2021.

Employing over 100 young individuals from various cultural backgrounds. They believed opportunity is inclusive to all.

Also, being recognised as a finalist by Xero, a multimillion cloud accounting organisation. The Kalculators was recently recognised for its “Consulting service” and as a “Boutique firm” of 2021.

Creating ability through disability

Working with the clients in disability, they realised the provided service level suffered for the vulnerable. Even with the proper funding, many individuals with disabilities were unable to create an independent lives for themselves.

Providing disability accommodations all over South Australia, Care Assure is recognised for the seamless service experience it provides.

Wielding Soft Power

As directors, it’s about more than the sales you do or the money you create; your clients are your centric value. In the current times of uncertainity, as organisations we must be sustainable, realistic and exercise quality control. The day you start working through hierarchy and consider yourself as a boss! You start to lose your ground as a leader.

Management should value transparency and respect. Not just profits or expenditures! Provide your team with the right resources and respect them for their own individuality. You will end up having a team of passionate individuals exceeding expectations.

Manisha Karmarkar: Breaking Glass Ceilings in the Field of Medicine

Meet Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, COO, Ruby Hall Clinic. Having joined the hospital as an anesthetist, she rose to the ranks and held a number of key positions. While she continued to be enjoy clinical work, the leadership team quickly noticed her intellect and emotional ability to get tangible results. Although she leads the hospital from the front, she hasn’t forgotten her roots. She is a practicing anesthetist and even continues her education in the form of degrees from esteemed educational institutions across the globe.

Since Manisha never planned her role as COO, she considers herself as an ‘accidental COO’. The first time she got attracted to healthcare leadership was when she was offered to head the Anaesthesiology Department and OT services at the hospital. Although she had theoretical knowledge due to her MBA in Healthcare Management, its practical knowledge and the belief senior management had in her that propelled Manisha forward. She also says, “I believe that nothing substitutes for hard work and talent. You can’t skate your way to the top and break glass ceilings.”

Achieving Excellence in Hospital Care

Manisha says, “Ruby Hall Clinic has a history of keeping at the heart of its operations. As an 850-bedded multidisciplinary institute with three hospitals in Pune, we have constantly moved towards a true culture of achieving excellence in-hospital care.” The hospital’s nine NABH and NABL quality accreditations and certifications in medicine as well as its cGreen OT certifications are proof of this very notion. As one of the forerunners in being bestowed with such accreditations, Manisha and her team’s focus on high-quality patient care speaks volumes in itself.

Additionally, Ruby Hall’s super-specialist doctors have a proven track record of excellence. Going beyond reputation and word of mouth, the hospital’s tertiary care services are known to have an excellent rate of results. When it comes to investing in the latest technology or even promoting organ donation in the country, Ruby Hall Clinic has the first-mover advantage further strengthening its position in the healthcare market. Take for instance the fact that it has been the first to perform pioneering robotic surgeries in the city and this number has now crossed more than 300. Or even the fact that Ruby Hall has a cutting-edge cancer care facility and an all-women managed breast care clinic among many other initiatives.

The Pandemic Changed Many Things

Manisha took the reins in the capacity of the COO at Ruby Hall Clinic right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although she feels it was a big challenge, she was willing to tackle it head-on. Manisha believes that coronavirus upended life for one and all and as a leader, she continued to do everything in her capability to keep her patients and employees safe while quickly adapting to changes in the industry. Be it technologically advanced equipment, adopting AI and machine learning, or pivoting tactics and strategies – the pandemic brought about changes she never imagined. As a leader, Manisha had to display business acumen, healthcare expertise, and forward-thinking all at once. Sure, there may have been challenging days but what mattered is that she took it all in her stride and worked to make a difference when it mattered the most.

Providing Unparalleled Healthcare Experience is the Target

Professionally, Manisha’s goals at the hospital focus on providing unsurpassed quality, unique technology, and an unparalleled healthcare experience. She and her team are working hard to build a more integrated system to achieve better health, better care, and more joy for those providing care as well. By harnessing technology, the entire team of Ruby Hall Clinic is looking to create the kind of experience around accessible healthcare that is valuable for people, allows them to achieve health goals they set for themselves, and to do it in a way that is affordable to them. And that is what Manisha Karmarkar is most excited about.

As a hospital, Ruby Hall Clinic has begun to expedite its expansion strategy by focusing on the rapidly growing demand for innovative and comprehensive solutions to support the digital transformation of the healthcare ecosystem, be it automation, artificial intelligence (AI), or the Internet of Things (IoT).“To be specific, the hospital has already incorporated a new EMR system, a successful Lab App actively uses robotics in surgeries, invested in world-class advanced equipment such as the Varian Ethos for cancer care, a hybridcath lab, and a neuronavigation system amongst others,” she says. Ruby Hall Clinic’s purpose is simple: to build a digitally enabled healthcare ecosystem where it actively collaborates across the continuum of care to improve each patient’s health outcomes.

Suggestions for Young Entrepreneurs

When asked for suggestions, Manisha Karmarkar says, “Be authentic, be genuine and be fearless. Not everyone will like your true colors, but people will appreciate your honesty anyway. But showing your true colors means showing your vulnerabilities, too. Let people know what gives you strength, what are your weaknesses, but make sure to turn them into strengths later on.”

She also adds, “No woman has risen to a leadership position without taking a few risks. It’s normal to feel hesitant about what you don’t know and what isn’t familiar. But don’t let that fear restrict you from pursuing a great idea or goal. Be fearless in the attempt of doing something new or challenging!

Chris Hildreth: Redefining the Customary ways in Food and Agro-Industry

Innovation is a key to the success of any business. Very few in various industries are witnessed to implement exemplary innovative ideas in the business sphere. And, one such business leader setting a benchmark through an inventive medium is Chris Hildreth.

Chris believes the astonishing distances and complex distribution systems that our food typically goes through before it reaches our plate are astounding. Triggering his entrepreneurial spirit to explore the business opportunity hidden in the loopholes of one of the largest industries; laying the foundations for TOPSOIL – Innovative Urban Agriculture INC. This innovative business venture has disrupted the traditional methods by assisting local restaurants and the surrounding community to enjoy fresh, local produce without a complex supply chain, without unnecessary pollution, and – most importantly – within hours of being harvested.

TOPSOIL was founded in 2015 with a vision to create an innovative approach to food production and to help cultivate a thriving local food system in Victoria B.C. – one that values environmental sustainability, transparency, and the local economy. Chris has a natural ability to inspire passion and enthusiasm when it comes to the benefits of local food production. His knack for bringing together people from a diverse range of disciplines and specialties has been a pillar upon which TOPSOIL is built. A pioneer of urban agriculture, Chris is breaking new ground to help build a vibrant local food economy.

He believes that the food scene in many cities around the world is now full of innovative ventures by social entrepreneurs. “Leading the way, TOPSOIL is producing large quantities of nutritious and delicious locally grown food that’s better for people and better for the planet,” he quotes. “It is how and where our TOPSOIL sites are built that matters: in cities and always in the community that they are providing for.” Its urban farms operate to eradicate a lengthy and complex supply chain, bypassing the entire industrial produce supply chain and connecting directly with the customers. “Urban agriculture is an exciting opportunity to provide food that is better for us, better for the environment, and just simply tastes better; for TOPSOIL, that’s what the eat local movement is all about” he asserts.

Since the company’s inception, Chris has had to overcome countless barriers to its current stature. “Finding a building developer to allow us to conduct our pilot project was a major barrier that took us 2 years of negotiation to overcome,” Chris mentions. “Having the city tell us that our urban agriculture pilot project was not zoned to be allowed in Victoria.” He soon decided to operate the pilot project for free to prove that urban agriculture should be part of the economic ecosystem of Victoria. The success of his pilot project was a catalyst for the city to rezone the entire city to allow commercial urban agriculture. Whereas, his final hurdle is to make the farming operation a fully-integrated, self-sufficient and modular farming unit that can be purchased by any organization, institution or individual that wants to bring food production into their community. He continues by stating that this unit will come equipped with all the necessary tools and infrastructure needed to run a successful farming operation. “The modular farming unit coupled with our proven farming system can then be replicated and scaled to any institution, community, or organization,” he further adds.

A brief note on TOPSOIL

TOPSOIL can be defined as an urban agriculture business that utilizes unused urban spaces by implementing productive farms. The most intriguing part of the model is the produce is sold directly to the surrounding restaurants and the community. Over the last 6 years, TOPSOIL has worked tirelessly to successfully prove that its modular farming system can be environmentally and socially responsible while being economically viable. It claims to be one of the only Urban agriculture businesses in the country utilizing non-arable urban land to produce food for restaurants and the surrounding community.

TOPSOIL has streamlined their production and distribution systems to allow its farms to grow 10’s of thousands of pounds of high-quality fresh local produce for over 25 restaurants and 1000’s of community members. “Growing food in the city for the city allows us to take an innovative approach to food production and provide chefs with the highest quality freshest produce while keeping our 5 principles intact,” Chris Hildreth mentions.

TOPSOIL was founded to increase and promote local food production and continues to drive that notion. It is disrupting the industry by creating a modular farming operation that can scale while taking a systematic approach to improving every aspect of their urban food system. Thus, the business was built on five guiding principles.

  • To provide chefs and the community with high-quality fresh local produce while creating economic, social, and environmental benefits for the building developer and surrounding community.
  • To minimize CO2 emissions associated with food transportation.
  • To use zero chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides.
  • To eliminate one-time-use plastic packaging.
  • Increase transparency – grow food in-sight in mind and provide the city with the opportunity to know exactly who, how, and where their food is coming from.

These principles have been the pillars on which TOPSOIL has built its business.

The Future depicted by Chris Hildreth

Chris Hildreth has forecasted his next 5 years in investing his energy in increasing local food production in any community by providing a fully integrated modular farming system empowering people through education, production, and employment. He highlights the major difference between TOPSOIL and a regular farm is that the farming system is modular, scalable and can be replicated in any community. Through the company, he desires to simplify the process for any individual, organization, or community to start growing food for their community. Its innovative organic growing methods produce large volumes of food in moveable geotextile containers which are easy to install, maintain, and remove (when needed). It has designed the system so that it can be easily replicated and scaled to any size, on any surface, and in any community.

Currently, he and his team are developing the modular farming system which will include modern technology to make the unit more efficient, more productive, and more environmentally sustainable in—an all-in-one system. The innovative farming system will soon be available for purchase and will come equipped with all the core components and operating systems needed for a successful farming operation. He firmly believes that the modular farming unit will be a powerful tool kit to help increase food production, food security, and economic empowerment in many other communities.

Aradhna Dayal: Bringing Foreign Investments in Asia

Even a few decades ago, Asian financial markets were frowned upon as they were a bit hard to access. In order to provide the perfect conduit for global families to come and invest in Asia, Access Alts Asia was born. The organization was founded by a pioneer in Asian investments Aradhna Dayal, who also serves as the CEO of the company. She is a proud global citizen who believes that Asia with its rapid transformation, innovation, and multi-culturalism, holds the key to the global economy. She is always passionate about people and connecting them as global communities.

Aradhna explains, “For as long as I can remember, my biggest joy has been traveling the world, eating at local haunts, chatting with cabbies, exploring cultural nuances, and understanding what makes people who they are.”

Aradhna’s other passion is social justice and societal global challenges that threaten humanity’s future; she has devoted her life to harnessing the power of people to solve them. “In many ways, AccessAlts is my way to create an interconnected community of remarkable people from all around the world who are passionate about making a difference and protecting our future,” explains Aradhna.

Early Career

During the late 1990’s Aradhna moved to Hong Kong and started her family investment office. Hong Kong provided her with the best seats to witness the transformation in Asian financial markets. Soon she witnessed the transformation of countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India. With many Asian countries becoming economic powerhouses, the potential for global investors to come in grew by quite a few folds.

However, Asia was always frowned upon as opaque and hard to access. So, Aradhna saw this niche and leveraged her wide global network to bridge this gap. She believes that business families are inherently entrepreneurial and they like looking at new geographies. However, they prefer coming through a trusted network. Aradhna provided the perfect conduit for global families to come and invest in Asia, which eventually led to the birth of Access Alts Asia.

Bringing Global Investors to Asia

AccessAlts Asia is a Hong Kong-based platform that brings different global investors and ground-breaking technology to Asia. As we all know Asia is transforming, and it needs ideas and capital.

However, before Aradhna started AccessAlts, Asia was seen as a market that is opaque and hard to access. Aradhna understood the importance of this niche and leveraged her wide global network to bridge this gap. Started as a simple idea-sharing platform in Hong Kong six years back, Aradhna has led AccessAlts’ exponential growth into an influential, global “members-only” investment club with over 350 members, channelizing smart capital into transformative companies.

Aradhna’s unique business idea and vision are the main reason for Access Alts Asia’s growth. Launched at the right time and at the right place. Through AccessAlts, Aradhna inadvertently created the first East-West investment bridge that tied global family offices togetherIt was also the time when Asia was creating the largest number of Unicorns in areas like transportation, financial services, deep technology, and e-commerce.

Amidst this, Access Alts pioneered the concept of discreet, intimate Member Meets in key financial centers: New York, Dubai, London, Washington, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, giving the club a global footprint very quickly.

When the Pandemic Wreaked Havoc

According to Aradhna, Covid was disastrous for her organization, which relies on physical meets to bring its members together. The business stopped for three months. However, the organization soon leveraged the opportunity to pivot into a Digital Consultancy on Business Preservation and Impact Investing;

  • The club started providing 360-degree consultancy to family businesses, from digitalizing their operations to entering new markets and verticals.
  • The club also incubated multiple start-ups in Asia. The start-ups serve in areas like e-payments, electric vehicle batteries, e-education, etc.
  • Also the club has done many landmark deals with companies like SpaceX and Beyond Meat during the pandemic.
  • It used various innovative techniques to begin hosting Virtual Meets to replace physical meets, creating an online network of investors and experts from around the world. This led to a more powerful community than ever.

Preparing for the Future

Having created a formidable network, Aradhna wants to leverage it to empower women business leaders and entrepreneurs. “I have always been passionate about creating a just and diverse society that provides equal opportunities to all,” said Aradhna. “Covid has allowed me to take a pause and think about the legacy I want to leave behind.”

“We want to fund women-led businesses and create a formidable ‘she-economy.” We also want to nurture female talent and have launched a Women on Boards initiative that handholds talented young women for corporate boardrooms roles.”

Aradhna, along with her children, Pradyumn and Pankhuri Dayal, also runs the aid platform Move4Migrants to integrate migrant and minority communities into mainstream society.

Finally, through Access Alts, Aradhna wants to direct capital and resources towards technology that creates a fairer world. “As I head towards my 50s, I have become cognizant of the importance of focusing on social ROI rather than financial ROI,” explains Aradhna.

Quote: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Noteworthy bits of Advice

Gauri Das suggests that every individual must acquire certain traits to achieve triumph. In her opinion, she suggests that leaders need to be one with the teams with three H— heart, head, and hand. People value autonomy because it helps them to explore the possibilities and to be creative with their work; they also have individual ownership over multiple aspects of their work. This helps an individual or a group of individuals to develop a connection with the heads of the team members. However, the connection with the head merely completes the 1/3rd part of the whole process. But when these team members are made aware of the value added by their work and the relationship developed with the purpose, a leader can witness an increase in their passion for the work i.e. the heart. “Finally when you have their head and heart, hands support. 3H is my mantra of leadership and with this comes empowerment empathy and openness to diverse thoughts. In my view, these lead to great performances and innovations,” she concludes.

“Be limitless… be a possibilitarian. No matter how difficult the situation is, there are always some possibilities, all we need to do is keep looking for them,” –
